MAENAD, TETOVO, VI-V BC.

This little decoration that was attached to a bronze crater discovered in Tetovo, very soon became accepted as an emblem of various institution through Macedonia. It is dated 520-500 y. B.C., part of dukes tomb from late archaic period, when actually the époque of metal ends, and the early history of Macedonia begins, whose material and spiritual culture is tightly connected to the big world centers at southeast. MEDALLION, Guriste, R. Macedonia - XIV c.

Decoration of costumes is an old tradition, especially at the front of the chest. This golden XIV ct. Medallion has been discovered at the Guriste archeological site – St. Nikole. This rare example with playful shape, is being connected with the figure of Maria Palaiologos, to whom it probably belonged. EARRINGS ORIZARI, XIV C.

The practice of presenting eagles in religious and secular material culture in Macedonia is widely spread in the medieval period. There exist a large repertoire of depictions of these birds on jewelry, especially on some luxurious specimens of earrings. These are discovered in the site near Orizari Kocani and are dated in XIV ct. And probably represent grave offering. Whether their depiction was result of fashion, religious or hierarch signalization, still it should be noted, that mid-century jewelry in general could indicate a corporation membership.
